After taking out the Scavengers, Simon turned his attention to Negan, hoping to lead a coup against his long-time leader.

Negan was one step ahead of his lieutenant, however, and stopped the coup before it started. Instead of simply killing Simon, he allowed him a chance to take his place with a fight to the death, and though Simon held his own well at first, Negan eventually killed him.

Letting him turn for his betrayal, Negan put his old right-hand with the other walkers at their base's entrance.
