The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs From "Out Of The Ashes"

4. DOWN: It Doesn't Advance The Story

Ultimately, all these flaws lead to one conclusion about Out of the Ashes: It does nothing to move the story along.

The Hilltop supply run seems to only exist to kill time, Maggie and Negan's scenes together feel tagged on at the last minute, and even Eugene et al are right back where they started in terms of their attempts to fall in with the Commonwealth and its still-hidden leaders.

With no involvement from the Reapers and a series of plodding B-plots that add nothing to the story we don't already know, the episode can best be described as directionless filler material.

At the moment, the season is in a bit of a rut, unable to escape the shadow of the Whisperer War and move on, so the quicker the Survivors get shot of the Reapers and finally make their way to the Commonwealth as a whole, the better off the series will be going forward.

Negativities aside, here's what the episode got right...
