The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "Hunted"
3. Melissa McBride's Performance
As great as Seth Gilliam, Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Callan McAuliffe are in Hunted, the episode's MVP is undoubtedly Melissa McBride, who gives one of her most subtly tragic performances as Carol yet.
Throughout the episode, Carol is on a mission to capture the community's missing horses, a quest which seems to be so they can use them for transport but soon turns into a much more horrifying journey of Carol's willingness to survive and protect her people.
Though Carol has had her narrative inconsistencies and tedious arcs over the years, Melissa McBride has always been one of the show's brightest stars, willing to throw herself head first into Carol's twisted mind state at every turn and making even her most jarring of developments feel powerfully authentic.
In Hunted, she's forced to balance Carol's regret over all the anguish she caused during the Whisperer War, and her need to always do what she thinks right for the group, and the results are to die for, especially in the episode's final moments when the true aim of her horse-capturing mission is revealed.
