The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "Hunted"
4. Gabriel's Continuing Slip To The Dark Side
Gabriel Stokes seemed destined to die during Beta's final attack on Alexandria at the end of season ten, and though I still believe this was the best way to go with his character (how they didn't include his comic death is very disappointing), watching him over the last few episodes has still been a joy.
The cowardly priest-turned-uncompromising community leader has always been one of the most compelling and complicated characters on the show, but his recent slip to the dark side has been his most enthralling development yet.
Starting when he killed Dante in season ten, betraying his belief that everyone deserves a chance to live and even change, Gabriel has been on the warpath, killing everyone who threatens his or his friends' safety without a second thought.
In Hunted, cutup, bloodied and alone, he confronts a mortally wounded Reaper, who asks him to pray for him. But in the season's best line thus far, Gabriel utters a phrase that perfectly captures his current mental state: "God isn't here anymore." Damn.
It seems we still have a ways to go with the disillusioned priest, which right now doesn't sound like a bad thing.
