The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs From "Rendition"
7. UP: The Performances Are All Fantastic
There's so much to love about the acting in this episode, which is often the case when the series slows things down and crafts a focussed story.
Norman Reedus has taken over from Andrew Lincoln as the series' primary protagonist, and whilst Daryl's always been one of the most popular characters in the show, Reedus himself has often gone long stretches without getting much to do.
Since season nine, though, the series has allowed Reedus to really show off his range, and Rendition certainly offers one of his most effective performances yet, playing Daryl as surly, conflicted, beaten and even heartbroken in equal measure.
He also benefits from two other top tier performances, both of which promise to only get better as time goes on. Ritchie Coster's portrayal of Pope is mesmerising in its sinister benevolence, and he's given a few stirring speeches that completely steal the episode.
Likewise, returning star Lynn Collins works wonders alongside Reedus, painting a vivid picture of a conflicted relationship and a fractured mental state with both sincerity and strength.
