The Walking Dead Season 6: 10 Things Episode 13 Got Right
9. The Jump Scare
For a horror show, there are surprisingly few cheap jump scares in The Walking Dead. It's good for my heart rate and it's good for building up some natural tension throughout episodes. It also means when they do happen, the desired effect is reached. Being put in the shoes of Maggie and Carol was tense, with the camera only showing us the glimpses from beneath the bags over their heads. When Maggie's was finally removed, there's a walker thrust right into her face, and the kill takes place inches away from her head. It's a small detail, but it was an immersive moment and actually provided a genuine jump. Just me? Okay then...
