The Walking Dead Season 6: 10 Things Episode 5 Got Right

1. Necessary, If Not Spectacular

Following on from the last section, an episode intended to make us care about the side-residents of the group isn't going to get the heart-racing as an episode dedicated to a barbaric invasion of the safe-zone, but it was a necessary step in the direction of development for many characters. We saw more of Denise, Tara, Denise and Tara together, Jessie, Deanna, Aaron, and Maggie. The latter four in particular could be amazing characters if they're given the chance to shine and Episode 5 gave them exactly that. It was by no means a spectacular episode, but it set up plenty of themes, ideas, and characters, ready to knock it all down and blow it all up in the coming weeks. The writers need strong Episodes 6, 7 and 8, and if they nail them all, this week's edition with retroactively look like a great idea. Apparent 'filler' episodes can be frustrating, but it all depends on the next few weeks as to whether it was worthwhile.
