The Episode: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be

How It Happened: After being outsmarted at every turn by the Saviors during their attempt to get Maggie to the Hilltop, the group was finally corralled in the woods and forced to get on their knees before Negan. Pissed that the group had killed off so many of his men and eager to show them who was now in charge, Negan introduced the group to Lucille, promised to kill one of them, and engaged in a game of eeny, meeny, miny, moe to pick his victim: Abraham, who proceeded to "take it like a champ" as his head was bashed in.

Why It's On This List: An argument can be made that Abraham's death would have been much more effective had it topped off the season six premiere, which chose to leave the identity of Lucille's victim a mystery, but even with such baggage on its shoulders, the event still wasn't an easy or welcome watch. Abraham's colorful one-liners had grown into a constant highlight of the show since the character was introduced back in the fourth season, and the soldier's death was both tragic for robbing us of a character who'd feel right at home in the war against Negan. It was also completely fitting, as he went out in style - "Suck my nuts" - so that none of his friends would have to suffer such a cruel fate.
