The Walking Dead Season 8: 10 Big Questions We Need Answers To

This is the part of the season eight trailer that has got everyone talking.

The teaser for the upcoming run ends with a long still of a walking stick, before a close up of a grey-bearded Rick waking up from what appears to have been a very cosy sleep.

A fair assumption would be that this is foreshadowing a time jump in the tv series, mirroring the narrative of the comic books, which skip several years after the Rick versus Negan war. Following an underwhelming seventh instalment, fast-forwarding time might be exactly what the show needs to freshen up (after all the violence of season eight, of course).

Thinking sceptically, this image of an aged Rick could be a complete hoax on behalf of showrunners to reignite interest in a waning fanbase, and might represent something as unimaginative as the main protagonist dreaming about a safer future for him and his family.

A bluff of that kind would be met with a backlash by viewers, the majority of whom would favour sticking to the written plot in this case. The longer we go without seeing old man Rick, the better the chance of this being something significant, rather than a naughty tease.
