The Walking Dead Season 8: 8 Things You Might've Missed In Episode 1

3. Rick Quotes The Traveller

The Walking Dead Siddiq
AMC/Image Comics

The season eight opener gave us a glimpse of a new character when a mysterious man jolted from the gas station that Rick and Carl were raiding at the start of the episode.

This nervous traveller is Siddiq, a popular secondary character from the comic books. Although the casting call for this part names him Abbud, it looks to have been a swerve on behalf of the producers to mask Siddiq’s introduction.

Siddiq’s mumblings as he surrendered to Carl included the line “may my mercy prevail over my wrath” - a line repeated by a distressed Rick in a flash-forward at the end of the episode.

This is too specific to be dismissed as a coincidence, so either Siddiq has something to do with Rick’s perilous situation, or has met him beforehand and imparted on him this wisdom.

We saw Siddiq hiding as Carl returned to leave him some food, and the flash-forward was not into the distant future so we could get an answer on this over the next few episodes.
