The Walking Dead Season 9: 10 Reasons To Actually Be Excited

The threat of Negan and the Saviour faction might not be totally eliminated yet but they definitely won’t be the number one bad guys anymore. That’s because Season 9 will introduce a brand-new villain in the shape of the Whisperers. Considering how drawn-out the Saviour arc felt, some fresh new foes are just what the show needs right now.

In the comics, the Whisperers are a delightful bunch who flay walkers and wear their skin so they can move through the apocalypse undetected by both the dead and the living. This means some pretty exciting stuff for the show as the walkers have taken a backseat in recent seasons but the Whisperers look set to weaponise them in a whole new way. They might even be the ones that take down our glorious leader Rick Grimes.

We’ve already had a sneaky glimpse of the Whisperers in the Season 9 trailer. That apparent zombie herd that Rosita and Eugene are hiding in the mud from at the very end aren’t walkers but Whisperers. Listen very, very closely and you’ll hear a raspy voice whispering “Where are they?”

Creepy bastards.

Better yet, the members of the Whisperer clan will be portrayed by some very talented actors including Academy Award nominated British actress Samantha Morton as savage leader Alpha and Ryan Hurst of Sons of Anarchy fame as second-in-command Beta. Exciting and gruesome skin-flaying times ahead!
