The Walking Dead Season 9: 3 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Who Are You Now?'

One way that The Walking Dead writers like to signify the beginning of a new era is by having two of their characters enter into a relationship off-screen. This way, viewers are made aware of the fact that time has passed, and it also saves the writers a whole lot of time.

Carol and Ezekiel is a prime example of this. At the beginning of the season, it was made clear that the two warriors had been seeing each other for quite some time. It was a smart decision on the writers' part, as the two characters had heaps of chemistry, so it was inevitable that they would become an item.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Rosita and Gabriel. The two characters barely interacted during the past couple of seasons, and now we're expected to believe that they're in love? The relationship is contrived at best, and comes off as nothing more than an attempt on the writers' part to make viewers aware of the time-jump. There was no foreshadowing of this relationship, nor is there any believable chemistry between the two characters.
