The X-Files: 10 Things To Expect From The Revival

4. At Least One "Comedy" Episode

We're in dangerous territory here. There's a good chance The X-Files will try to recapture some of the lightheartedness of its later seasons in at least one episode of the revival, and that could really go either way. Starting around the fourth season, the show tried its hand at comedy - and fared surprisingly well, with critics at times calling its comedy chops up there with some of the best sitcoms of the day. The problem, however, was that this praise seemed to get to the writers' heads, as they focused more and more on light, quirky episodes, especially in the seventh season, the last to feature star David Duchovny on a full-time basis. That season more than any other damaged the show's legacy, even more so than the departure of its leading man. If you had to guess, Mulder and Scully Meet The Were-Man (the third episode of the revival) would be a prime candidate for a lighthearted tone. Beyond just the name itself, it's penned by Darrin Morgan, who wrote some of the better, early light X-Files episodes.
