5. Scully Clearly Has Second Thoughts About Giving Up Her Son
It was clear from some of the earlier episodes this season that Scully has been having issues coming to terms with not having her son in her life, and it's even clearer, after Home Again, that she is having second thoughts about giving him up in the first place. William is a background part of Home Again, but that doesn't mean the connection to him in this episode isn't crucial to Scully's development this season. When she gets the initial phone call from big brother Bill (aka William Scully Jr.) that their mother is in hospital, she sees only William. Again, when Mulder calls her, she sees the name William on her call display. Chalk that up to seeing things and emotional turmoil if you will, but then her mother's dying words, to Mulder no less, are basically pointing out that William is her son's name as well (Bill Jr.) in reference to Mulder and Scully's child. In essence, her last thoughts were of the grandchild she never knew, which rattles Scully further. Expect, at some point, a reunion. That's really the only closure for her.
