Finally, the flashlights come out, the scene is lit by the agents seeking out some creature or other, and all seems right with the show. For all its flaws, Home Again did a few things right - it had a very creepy monster, though one that was sadly underutilized and given a rather hokey origin story, and it paid homage to the flashlights so key to the early, darkest X-Files outings. When Mulder says he doesn't do stairs anymore after letting a suspect flee, and Scully counters with "back in the day I used to do stairs in three-inch heels" (or something to that effect), he pulls out his flashlight and quips that it is "back in the day." It's the one funny line in the episode that really works - okay, the dark wizard line does get some credit - but it's also what fans really, really need more of. Of course, there's not much time left, but visually, this was once again an improvement, so the show has at least been trending in the right direction in terms of look.
