The X-Files New Series: 5 Reasons To Be Excited
This is actually happening.
The X-Files was one of the oddest, creepiest, and most unlikely shows ever to explode into mainstream success on network television. Airing for nine seasons from 1993 2002, the series followed the exploits of FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigated the paranormal. He was a believer with a spooky reputation; she was a skeptic assigned to debunk his work. They were nerdy and brilliant and smokin hot. They chased after aliens with badges and guns and flashlights. They spoke in monotones and used words so gratuitously multisyllabic that audiences felt smarter just for getting the gist. It was awesome. The unprecedented success of this bizarre show inspired two films. Fight the Future premiered in the middle of X-Files mania in 1998, bridging the gap between Seasons 5 and 6 of the show and giving viewers a whole new reason to hate bees. I Want to Believe premiered in 2008, bringing Mulder and Scully back for the first time after the series finale. Ever since, legions of fans known among themselves as X-Philes - have been yearning for more. It comes as no surprise that the prospect of a miniseries - finally confirmed on March 24 - featuring the return of the dynamic duo has thrilled Philes all over the world. With a 13-year gap since their last adventures on television, however, the odds of the new episodes falling short of expectations are disarmingly high. Nevertheless, its much more fun to want to believe that a return to the X-Files phenomenon of the 90s will manage to take the world by storm yet again. So, here are five major reasons why the miniseries run of The X-Files could be fantastic. Warning: lots of show spoilers ahead.
