Titans Season 2: 4 Ups & 3 Downs From ‘Jericho’
2. Flashbacks Within Flashbacks
Even though 'Jericho' wasn't book-ended by present-day scenes, it was still very much so a flashback episode. That's just something that viewers were aware of when it started because, after we met Jericho a few weeks back, it was pretty clear that we'd be getting the rest of the story.
That being said, throughout the episode, Jericho would end up reminiscing on his life with Slade and how his actions ultimately pulled the Wilson family apart, prompting the show to once again flashback to how Slade became Deathstroke. Now, again, this was very effective in allowing us to see how and why Deathstroke is who he is, but the idea of flashbacks disrupting a flashback episode made those first moments hard to figure out which timeline we were watching.
If this had taken place in the present-day, it would have been totally fine (again, the Deathstroke flashbacks were great) but they felt unusual in an episode that was already devoted to showing us a different part of the past.
