True Detective: 10 Dream Castings For Season 4

3. Olivia Colman And Rosamund Pike

True Detective Season 4
Fox

Two English actresses might be a bridge too far not just for audiences, but in terms of explaining why the two are working on a case likely to take place in the USA’s Deep South. However, Pike has used an American previously, so let’s just brush past that for now.

As well as the accent, Pike is no stranger to grisly roles, most notably her career-best performance in Gone Girl. She’s often deliberately unlikable, supposed to make audience’s hairs stand up on end.

Colman, on the other hand, is usually the most likeable thing whatever she’s in, be that her earlier comedy or her more recent drama. She may be looking to expand her career after her recent Oscar win, and though she won’t be short of offers, a HBO TV show with critical acclaim certainly won’t be the worst of them.

With Pike’s addictive detestability offset by Colman’s charm, these two have the ability to create a great pairing; one that may even actively ask the audience to take sides. McConaughey’s wounded Cohle in the present is so powerful because we’re rooting for him. Giving us a distaste for Pike would pull the rug out from beneath us.
