TV Review: Shameless Series 2011, Episode 2 - Remembrance Day
Gone is the charm of the show and all that is left are the druggies, piss heads and degenerates on the estate not fit to lace the boots of characters been and gone.
Shameless returned to our screens last week on Channel 4 in what is being called series 2011. Shameless has been around for so long that it has changed quite considerably since it first aired following the lives of the Gallagher family. With most of them gone now the show follows the Maguire family in their trials and tribulations on the Chatsworth estate. Personally I am not as much of a fan of the shows recent incarnation as I was of the first few series written by Paul Abbott and Danny Brocklehurst. The comedy seems a little more staged and the story a little less authentic. Dafter and dafter things seem to be happening and the Maguires are nowhere near as lovable as the Gallaghers. But I gave it a go. The episode began with Paddy Maguire being brought back to the estate in a coffin and instead of finding his body the Maguires find a coffin full of guns. After selling the lot and losing the one they used for a hit theres panic. Frank struggles to deal with loosing Libby, but parades a brave face in public and Patty is looking to raise awareness for those with disabilities. Karen starts a business as a clown, it takes off and she employs others to help. However, when she ends up fighting with another bird dressed as a clown who was on her patch, and just happens to be fit and blonde, they roll around half naked in someones garden and Karen has an idea. Clown strippers! Despite her partner Jamie being a gangster who is petrified of clowns! However, when she and this new girl attend a party that gets out of hand she looks in her bag, finds the missing gun and virtually shoots her way out of there. It couldnt get any more absurd if it tried. The show has continued as it has done over the last few years with poor stories and characters that are no where near as great as the early days. Gone is the charm of the show and all that is left are the druggies, piss heads and degenerates on the estate not fit to lace the boots of characters been and gone.
