Twin Peaks: The Return Premiere Review: 7 Ups & 4 Downs

5. The Mysteries Are Confusing & Compelling

The Box Twin Peaks

Even though the early hours don't give much of an indication how things will pan out in the long run, Lynch has done nothing if not serve up a highly compelling series of tangentially-linked mysteries.

The two main threads, of course, are the peculiar glass box in New York City and Agent Cooper's quest to return his evil doppelganger to the Black Lodge, and going by the "it is happening again" tagline, it seems probable that Twin Peaks will end up with another young body wrapped in plastic at some point.

Whatever the end result of these plots, the journey so far is fascinatingly odd and, though thoroughly confusing, incredibly difficult to look away from. It may be weird for weird's own sake, but it has a deeply entrancing appeal all the same.
