From the very beginning of the show, it's quite obvious that Klaus is definitely the most eccentric out of the six living members of The Umbrella Academy. However, it's not until he helps out Number 5 during his investigation into the apocalypse that we get to see how absolutely mental he actually is.

While trying to convince a stubborn Meritech doctor to give them information on a specific prosthetic eye that Number Five had taken back with him from the future, Klaus uses his craziness to his advantage by telling the employee that they'll lie to get the information.

How? By punching Number 5 in the face with a solid right hook and busting his own head open with a snow globe and claiming that they were attacked by the doctor.

It's a left-field plan that even takes Number 5 by surprise, but it certainly works and shows that even when he's not sober and unable to use his powers, Klaus can still be extremely useful.
