5. Freydis
Freydis is based on the real life Freydís Eiríksdóttir, however their lives were completely different.
The real character was born in 970 AD, so a while after her on-screen husband Ivar the Boneless lived. In real life, she was the daughter of Erik the Red who was a Viking explorer who traveled west of Scandinavia. She followed in his footsteps and was one of the first Vikings who traveled to Greenland and North America.
Her character in the show seems to only carry the same name and the same strong spirit as her namesake, rather than any similar life events.
