In "Seed," several months have passed in-universe since "Beside The Dying Fire," and we see that Rick and Co. have become a relatively cohesive fighting unit during their time on the run. Still, by the time that the premiere rolls around, everybody is pretty exhausted. Between not-so-young Hershel and in-the-family-way Lori, the group really needs a place to rest. So, when Rick and Daryl stumble upon a prison, Rick decides that they will take it. Unfortunately, the prison just so happens to be completely overrun by Walkers. The episode follows the group as they fight their way inward through Walker-riddled courtyards and dark corridors to try to secure a home for themselves, risking life and limb in what feels more and more like a suicide mission. "Seed" is an episode that starts a whole new chapter in the series. With the discovery of the prison, the survivors finally have a chance to establish a safe place for themselves. We also see how Rick has tightened his grip on his role as leader, and the new dynamics of the characters as they work together are refreshing after the rather disorganised discord of previous seasons.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
