Guilt Trips For Everybody

At the abandoned commissary, Carol is trying to pump water out of one of the two water barrels, both of which are nearly empty. Tyreese sneaks up on her to ask her to look in on Sasha while he is with Daryl. Carol agrees. Before Tyreese can leave, she stops him and tells him that she's very sorry for his loss with Karen's death. He leaves, and she flips out and throws her water bucket before kicking over one of the water barrels. As she hurries to tip it back up to keep it from totally emptying, I begin to suspect that she is our killer. Which everybody else watching had probably already figured out. Maggie visits Beth again, whose facade begins to crack with news of their father's entrance into the quarantine area.
CSI: Georgia Penitentiary. Rick is at the crime scene, having been guilted by Tyreese into investigating. He finds a bloody handprint that is smaller than his own. From the expression on his face, he has a suspect in mind, and we pan to... ...Carol, who has ventured beyond the gates on her own to try to fix the hose and restore their clean water supply. Not that they boil their water before use or anything. That would be much too sensible in the face of a raging infection. Anyway, she had rigged up a noisy distraction out of the remnants of some bicycles to distract the Walkers, but it doesn't work for very long. Rick exits the prison and sees her beyond the fences. Like a sane and reasonable person, he races toward her and yells for her to come back. Carol is determined to finish with the water hose, but I'm with Rick again: the stream isn't going anywhere, Carol. She works until the last possible moment, and she
does successfully clear the hose. Unfortunately, she is also immediately overrun by Walkers. Her knife gets stuck in one of their heads, and instead of listening to my advice and immediately deciding to abandon the knife and come back for it later, she yanks and yanks at it, taking so long that Rick--who is armed only with a noisy six-shooter--must risk his own life to come out and save her. When they make it back inside, Rick is mad that she went to deal with the water hose
alone when they had agreed to do it tomorrow. Carol is blasé, and I'm mad at her. Road trip, Daryl-style. Bob and Tyreese are safely buckled into their seats in the back, looking for all the world like a pair of children in the car with Mom and Dad. Daryl drives as he and Michonne discuss the Governor. He sympathizes with her need to hunt him down, and he tells her that he would be there with her if she ever found him. As this is something of a heart-to-heart, Daryl spends more time looking at her than at what he is doing. Eyes on the road, Daryl. To break the tension, Daryl fiddles with the sound system and begins rifling through the CDs in the car. Eyes on the road, Daryl! Before he can choose a CD, a voice broadcasts over the radio. Instead of only using his ears, Daryl looks at the radio with the rest of them. EYES ON THE ROAD, DARYL. Despite my insistences, Daryl does not obey the rules of the road, and he pulls a Lori by plowing into a Walker that he did not see right in front of him. The foursome quickly discovers that they have driven into more than just a few stray Walkers, and a horde of zombies advances on them. It's pretty scary. Daryl tells the others to abandon the car and run for the woods, and he gets the Zombie Kill Of The Week as he emerges from the sunroof of the car to send a crossbow bolt into a Walker's head. He and Michonne stab, slash, and crossbow their way into the forest without much trouble. I must say, while I don't particularly care about the romances of
The Walking Dead, I wouldn't mind if Daryl and Michonne got together for the sake of the human race and started producing badass uber-babies to star in
The Walking Dead: Next Generation.
Anyway, while Daryl and Michonne are fighting their way into the forest, Tyreese has refused to get out of the car, and Bob yells at him while firing a handgun at the Walkers. He is standing right next to the car and making a whole lot of noise, and I am just waiting for him to get bit. As it turns out, my waiting is in vain, and Bob scampers off to join Team Badass in the woods. Tyreese finally gets going, but he is swarmed almost immediately. Going into a hammer frenzy, he yells for his companions to leave him, and...they totally do, taking out a few Walkers as they run. "Thanks,
guys!" Tyreese shouts after them. For some reason, I'm thrilled to see Daryl actually stopping to reload his crossbow. He almost shoots a blood-covered Tyreese, who has somehow managed to fight his way out of his own personal zombie horde to follow them. Instead of demanding to know if he was bit, Team Badass (and Bob) yell for him to hurry. The camera pans up, and we see the veterinary college in the distance, which is wonderful news for them. They're only fifty-five miles away from the prison, with no car, no means of communication, and a zombie horde in between. It's unfortunate for them, but I have a feeling that they are going to be
awesome next week. In A-Block, a masked Hershel is serving elderberry tea to Dr. S, who looks terrible but tells Hershel that he should not be there. Hershel gently tells Dr. S that he knows that the good doctor would be in A-Block even if he weren't already sick, and that Hershel intends to do the same. Dr. S then seals the deal by coughing blood onto Hershel's face and into his eyes. Hershel calmly removes his mask and goes to have a fatherly talk with Glenn. I am so worried about him. Commissary. Carol is refilling the water barrels, and Rick arrives to call her out on her awful plan of going beyond the fences alone. Carol admits that her plan was unwise but makes no apologies for it. Rick asks if she is the sort of person who would do anything to protect the people--and, in particular, children--of the prison, and she says that she is. She begins to walk away, carrying pails of water for the afflicted. "Carol, did you kill Karen and David ?" Rick asks, looking as though he really doesn't want an answer. "Yes," she answers simply. Despite how unnerving her behavior has been in this (and last week's) episode, I have to give her credit for answering him truthfully. She walks away, leaving Rick alone. Rick looks miserable, and I wonder what it says about me that I would have blamed it on one of the people who already died.
