The Walking Dead 4.3, "Isolation" Recap & Review

This Isn't Going To End Well

4 Carl With Gun Carol ushers newly symptomatic civilians into A-Block, relatively compassionate but unrelenting in her refusal to listen to their protests of health. New daughter Lizzie appears, showing symptoms of her own. A clearly distraught Carol gives her a hug, but she sends Lizzie in quarantine all the same. "It's okay," she thinks to herself, "I still have a spare." Carl packs his gear, unhappy that he's being sent into isolation with all of the other children. He and his father discuss the fact that he might need to use his gun. Meanwhile, Maggie discovers that Glenn is sick. He goes to quarantine, and Maggie visits Beth, who has been isolated with baby Judith. Beth isn't exactly reassuring, but it's nice to be reminded that these two actually are sisters. Outside. Daryl is packing a car for the trip to the veterinary college, and I can't believe that they haven't left yet. He and Michonne discuss her frequent searches for the Governor, and we learn that Daryl had been helping her until the trail had gone cold. He also says that Bob will be joining them, although he wishes that they had a fourth. He decides to ask Tyreese, who is down in quarantine visiting a very sickly Sasha. Daryl finds him and asks him to join them, but Tyreese says no and states once more that the search for the murderer is imperative. Hey, nobody's stopping you from doing any searching, Tyreese. Anyway, like Rick, Daryl wants to focus on the sick, although he vows to put a bolt in the killer's head when they get back. "It's not like it'll be any close personal friend of mine," he thinks to himself. Tyreese agrees to go. Screen Shot 2013 10 28 At 5 06 50 Pm Administrative building. Hershel tries to sneak out of isolation and go to the forest. Carl spots and tries to stop him, but he ultimately decides to join Hershel instead. He's very bossy. They go outside, and Hershel picks berries while Carl watches for Walkers. Hershel apparently discovered a huge patch of elderberries, and his bag is sagging with fruit almost immediately. A Walker with her leg caught in a bear trap stumbles upon them, but Hershel tells Carl not to shoot. Unlike when he shot the Woodburyite at the end of Season 3, Carl obeys and lets the Walker stagger on by. I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, it's good that Carl isn't such a bloodthirsty maniac as he was a few episodes ago, and it's always good for them to conserve ammunition. On the other hand, killing Walkers is sort of what they do. Carl goes back to isolation, and Hershel tries to sneak into A-Block to make elderberry tea for the ailing. How folksy! Maggie stops him and tries to talk him out of exposing himself to the disease, but Hershel won't have it. "The only thing you can choose is what you're risking for. Now, I can make these people feel better, and hang on a little bit longer. I can save lives. That's reason enough to risk mine," he says. It's a pretty great speech, and it makes me immediately begin to fear for Hershel's life. Maggie shares my concerns, but she lets him go.

Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
