The Walking Dead 5.1 Review - 5 Talking Points From "No Sanctuary"

3. A More Savage Side Of Rick

Another character evolution we€™ve seen over the course of the last couple of years has been Rick€™s journey from protector to pacifist farmhand back to protector to bloodthirsty revengeseeker. Rick Grimes has essentially become Shane, the man whose ideals he rejected, in his efforts to protect his friends and family. The Rick who sunk his teeth into Joe€™s jugular isn€™t a far cry from the man who spent his afternoons hoeing the turnip patch, and that man is still a step below the Frank Castle of the zombie apocalypse that he€™s now become. He was not in any way content with abandoning Terminus without first assuring himself that all its residents had perished, either by his hand or that of the walkers. When he stated his intentions, you could see the reactions of his friends, a little surprised at his willingness to kill. But here€™s a group who was about to EAT HIS SON, they should be able to understand his anger. It€™ll be interesting to follow Rick and to see if he continues to embrace that side of him, or if he struggles to hold onto his humanity. There€™s a very thin line between being an effective protector who will do what it takes to ensure the survival of loved ones and becoming a Governor-like tyrant. Will Rick eventually land on the same side as Phillip Blake?
