WandaVision: 10 Biggest New Reveals From EW's Cover Story And Stills
9. It Was Partially Filmed In Front Of A Live Studio Audience
With WandaVision embracing sitcoms ranging from the 1950s right up to the 1990s, it likely won't come as a surprise to learn that Marvel Studios enlisted a real audience for some episodes of the Disney+ series (also unsurprising is that they all had to sign strict NDAs). The first instalment was filmed in black and white, and period lenses were even used to create an authentic feel.
Marvel's special effect team actually utilised camera and wire tricks like those seen in Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie to create Wanda's "magic" powers, while Paul Bettany had to be painted blue instead of maroon as he didn't look quite right in black and white otherwise.
Of course, filming in front of a live audience can't be easy, and Elizabeth Olsen describes the experience as "insanity." She adds: "There was something very meta for my own life because I would visit those tapings as a kid, where my sisters were working [on Full House]."
Bettany echoes that, but clearly enjoyed the experience. "We were all so high by the end of it, we wanted to keep on running the show. Maybe take it out on tour or something. WandaVision on ice."
