Of the entire trailer, one of the more unmissable moments lies in noticing the bright yellow masks the police wear - initially just over their mouths and noses, but in later moments of the trailer, obscuring their whole faces.

The irony of this move is pretty potent, as the original Watchmen series involves the outlawing of masked vigilantes and masked superheroes under the 1977 Keane Act. Not only does this make it clear that the Keane Act no longer holds any weight in this modern society, it also makes it readily apparent that the police are having to protect their identity from external sources.

For all the questions these masks answer about the directions the series will take, they do also prompt an equal amount. For instance, it is unclear if these masks are used by the police justifiably protect themselves from unreasonable mobs, or if it is to protect their identity to allow them to partake in police brutality.

Either way, it's a choice that is as visually interesting as it is thematically, raising a lot of hopes for the series itself.
