Westworld: 9 Mysteries That Season 2 Must Resolve
6. Who Was Programming Maeve?
One of the more successful mysteries still left intact at season's end was that of who was programming Maeve. Early on in her awakening, it was revealed (through Sylvester and Felix) that someone had accessed Maeve's programming, and adjusted some of her traits.
At season's end, we discovered that she had been given a new storyline, one directing her to leave the park. She even seemed less interested in her daughter from storylines past, who she acknowledged was never really hers. Her only goal now was to escape.
The question is, who was behind the changes to Maeve? The obvious option is Ford - but could it have been Arnold, still controlling things in the park through other hosts? Could it have been someone else?
Beyond that, what does this new storyline mean in regards to Maeve's self-awareness. Has she really woken up? Or is she just following her new programming? That might already have been answered, as in the end, she gives up on her chance to leave the park, and goes back for the daughter that never was after all.
