Westworld Review: 10 Non-Spoiler Reasons It's HBO's Next Big Thing
6. But Evan Rachel Wood Is The Standout
One name not mentioned in the previous entry is Evan Rachel Wood, and that's because she deserves her own specific praise. As things stand (through the first four episodes), Wood's Dolores is the closest thing we've got to a main protagonist.
A rare female Westworld A.I. who doesn't work in the brothel, Dolores is the archetypal farmgirl, who just wants to look after her daddy and have the fairytale romance with Teddy.
She perfectly captures the young (despite being the park's oldest 'host'), sweet, and earnest nature of Dolores at the outset, who has never questioned her world, until now. As things unravel and Dolores discovers more, she becomes an increasingly fascinating character, and the one you're most likely to be rooting for - by putting Dolores front-and-centre, Westworld has ensured this weird, morally-complex show has a whole lot of heart at its very core.
