Westworld Season 2 Review: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions To The First Five Episodes
7. The Human Characters Still Aren't That Interesting
The show likes to blur the lines between what's real and fake, and who's a human and who's a host. Perhaps it's by design, then, that those who are artificially created are more interesting and have more personality, but it doesn't really make it more palatable when we've got to spend time with the less interesting humans.
William/Man in Black aside, the rest of the 'real' characters who litter Westworld aren't given a whole lot of depth and can't match their robotic counterparts in terms of how interesting they are to follow. Elsie Hughes and Ashley Stubbs both make their return, yet neither is as close to being as captivating as the hosts they spend time with: the robots can be almost anything, but it's the humans who end up as the blank canvasses. That goes even more for Charlotte Hale, who again isn't really fleshed out and Tessa Thompson can't do too much with.
