X-Men ’97: 10 Things We Want To See
1. One Final Showdown With Apocalypse
Magneto may have been the most recurring enemy in X-Men: The Animated Series but Apocalypse was always the most daunting foe. Being the most powerful mutant on Earth, the 5,000-year-old tyrant came closer to vanquishing the X-Men more than anyone.
Interestingly, the original show was supposed to conclude with the X-Men battling Apocalypse throughout time and space in the story arc, Beyond Good and Evil. However, the ratings were astronomical at the time so the studio extended the show by 20 episodes after this storyline concluded. This was a frustrating decision since the cartoon had massive budget cuts in the last season, which resulted in poor animation and an anticlimactic ending. (Also, the last few storylines sucked.) The point is that X-Men should've concluded with the team battling the warmongering mutant.
Since X-Men is returning in 2023, this is a perfect opportunity to give the show the epic ending it deserves. Although the actor who provided the voice for Apocalypse, John Colicos, is no longer with us, it would be blasphemous not to see the X-Men face off against their greatest enemy once more.
