YOU Season 2 Review: 7 Ups & 4 Downs

1. The Treatment Of Candace

You Season 2 Candace
Netflix

When Netflix unveiled the trailer for YOU's second season, this writer suggested that Candace might be the key to ensuring that it didn't just become a carbon copy of its predecessor. In a way, that's exactly what she did, as her introduction added a new piece to the puzzle that never existed before. But she did so at the behest of the plot.

The reset between seasons meant that she had to spend a portion of episodes attempting to find Joe all over again, and when she finally did, she never struck - allowing an unnecessarily long status quo to set in between her and the man she vowed to destroy that just never felt plausible given the stakes involved. And when she finally made her move, it was dealt with in a such a way that undermined her as a character, reducing her to nothing more than a plot device.

While the twist was admittedly effective (we'll get to that later), it came at the cost of Candace's part to play and, given how the season ultimately works out, that doesn't seem like it was a price worth paying.

Candace deserved better and, to be quite honest, she's not the only one.

Now, for the positives...
