Gregor "The Gift" Gillespie versus Yancy "The Kid" Medeiros will give viewers an opportunity to see 2 rising stars in the lightweight division showcase their skills.
Gillespie, a former NCAA Division I wrestler out of New York, is 5-0 in the UFC and has faced little adversity during his time with the promotion. He does an excellent job using combinations to set up his takedowns and overwhelm his opponents on the ground.
After winning 3 fights in a row, Hawaii's Yancy Medeiros is coming off a surprising TKO loss to veteran Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. He is a former high school wrestling standout who never shies away from a brawl.
Medeiros is a well-rounded fighter, but "The Gift" would seem to have a slight edge everywhere — especially in the wrestling department. For "The Kid" to have shot here, he will need to turn the fight into a sloppy brawl, as he did against Alex Oliveira, and hope Gillespie makes a mistake. However, it's far more likely that the New Yorker uses his superior hand speed to set up his takedowns and either submit Medeiros or finish him with some ground and pound.
