1 Up & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (Aug 19)

4. “Stand By Match Up”

Julia Hart Buddy Matthews
AEW

Excalibur then revealed that Buddy Matthews and Serpentico were waiting in the wings on the off-chance that Hook vs. Zack Clayton didn't last long. What? Wow, way to make the House Of Black member (in particular) look like he just sits around in catering waiting for the call.

Then, to top it all off, Buddy's match lasted 90 seconds.

OK, if Vince McMahon didn't replace Tony Khan in the booker's chair for this week's Rampage, one has to ask another question. Did Vince Russo take the gig instead? This is exactly the kind of mind-numbing silliness he would've put on WCW Nitro back when that show's name was mud.

Literally calling Matthews vs. Serpentico a "stand by match up" was stupid, and the fact it then flashed by in an instant is borderline laughable. Not even Miro rushing out to brawl with Buddy could save this segment from the 'Downs' section, sadly.
