10 2020 Moments WWE Must NEVER Do Again

3. Eye For An Eye

"They should refrain from adding unfair pressure and hype to matches before they happen".

If that sounds familiar, then good. It should. Another unnecessary hype job happened a few months after Backlash at the elaborately-titled 'The Horror Show At Extreme Rules' pay-per-view. Before that show, WWE spent ages definitively saying on television that either Seth Rollins or Rey Mysterio would "lose an eye".

Meanwhile, fans watching from the safety of their homes chuckled and sneered, 'No, no they bloody well won't'. Everyone knew that the promotion would try to dodge this ludicrous claim come show time, and they did. At Extreme Rules, Mysterio's face was jabbed by the steel ring steps (again), Seth threw up and everyone acted horrified.

Rumours of some CGI (C-G-Eye?) didn't come true either. So, the putrid lure of the match was sidestepped, Rey wore a mesh covering over one eye on his masks and everyone moved on. What next? 'Loser's Leg Gets Cut Off' in 2021?

Best not give them any ideas...
