Just as news of the Women's Royal Rumble wasn't particularly shocking, neither was the fact that Ronda Rousey made her debut at the event to stake her claim for a match at WrestleMania 34.

In truth, WWE made little attempt to hide this one. Rousey was such a huge, headline-making acquisition that reports about her competing on the Grandest Stage of Them All began to surface the second she walked through the Performance Center doors. That had to be by design.

And, to be fair to them, the company did at least throw a curveball our way here. Instead of having the former UFC star pop up during the match - as many had anticipated - she came down after the final bell to interrupt Asuka's celebrations.

It would have nice if the had kept everything under wraps until the moment of her entrance, but it's not really practical in today's world, especially where performers with genuine mainstream appeal are concerned.
