10 Abandoned Wrestling Gimmicks That Would Have Been Awesome
3. Raven's Seven Deadly Sins
A lot of good men were lost in the Invasion. It was a weird time to be in the WWE, particularly if you didn't want to be just another WCW leftover jobbing to one of Vince's boys, which is exactly the position Raven found himself in.
In 2001, he'd lost a match which stipulated he'd be banished from Raw, and as a result, spent the majority of his time slumming it on Heat. In desperate need of a re-branding, Raven suggested using the Seven Deadly Sins motif.
Essentially, Raven was to start searching out the sins on the WWE roster, and making those sinners pay, showing their warts to the world.
He would've gone after jobbers initially, building up the idea in non-feud matches, calling guys out for their Gluttony or Sloth before dismantling them in the ring. Then he would lose an "I Quit" match to a mid-carder - presumably falling victim to his own Pride - and briefly disappearing.
But the angle would have returned with vengeance in a feud with Matt Hardy, where Raven videotaped him going to a seedy hotel with a woman who wasn't his then-girlfriend Lita.
The broad idea was to have Lita leave Matt, the Lustful, for Raven, the Envious. It's unclear how long the Seven Deadly Sins gimmick would have lasted after that feud, though Raven said he wanted to draw the whole thing out for about six months, which was simply too long for WWE.
