10 Absolute Best Uses Of Music In Wrestling History

10. 'Gorgeous' George Wagner Helps Popularise Theme Music

As far back as the 1950's, 'Gorgeous' George Wagner was being played to the ring by the sounds of 'Pomp And Circumstance'. A series of Marches composed by Sir Edward Elgar, one of the pieces was even later used by 'Macho Man' Randy Savage. Whilst Savage's music was instant and booming, George's was more light and frilly. It suited him perfectly, and was pretty revolutionary. Obviously, technology wasn't what it is now in the 1950's, and thus the music was fairly tame compared to what fans are used to hearing now. Volume wasn't high, but fans keenly listened, watching in awe as Wagner strolled down the aisle in resplendent robes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-edspwwYTk It cannot be discounted how big a part 'Gorgeous' George played in helping music become a huge part of a wrestler's act. Few other performers had their own tune to walk out to, which immediately made Wagner look like an even bigger deal. He didn't come across as just another grappler, he came across as a complete and utter superstar act. Music was crucial to maintaining that aura.
