10 Absurd Wrestling Gimmicks That Should Have BOMBED (But Didn't)
5. Bray Wyatt (Children's TV Host/The Fiend)
It may have ultimately gone on to become something a failed experiment by the time Bray Wyatt was initially let go from WWE in July 2021, but there's still little arguing against the fact that his Fiendish and Children's TV Host alter-egos were just about the hottest thing in the company at one point.
Fans simply couldn't get enough of the wacky Firefly Funhouse, creepy puppet critters within, and the ludicrous Muscle Man dance. And Wyatt's sudden attacks on everyone from WWE legends to Finn Bálor quickly re-established him as a Fiend to be reckoned with after The Eater of Worlds gimmick had died on its arse.
Now sure, the character would ultimately run out of steam rather quickly in the wake of dethroning Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship, and eventually did a great deal of damage to just about any performer he came up against during this period of spooky dominance.
But the fact this surreal gimmick even clicked in the first place was something of a miracle.
It's never been harder to convince folks that "supernatural" happenings can live in the same space as the far more grounded wrestlers found on the average roster. Yet, Wyatt definitely found a way to do it for a few months there... then he got burned to a crisp by a snake.
