AEW's record with the "Casino" labelling has been mixed at generous best and lame at pragmatic worst.
A series of over-thought and over-booked messes have taken the name over the years seemingly as part of the company's intent to innovate a new stipulation of their own. This was not that - this was a Tag Team Royal Rumble in all apart from its name - but it wasn't a particularly huge leap in the right direction.
90 seconds between each team entering (the clock on the screen the whole time forced AEW to stick to it too) helped, but much of this was a reminder of how loaded the tag roster is without it being a particularly high-functioning division.
Major moves and eliminations were thrown away, missed or mistimed before a decent conclusion that predictably featured the best of the field. John Silver and PAC had an electric exchange, nothing Rey Fenix did happened without a full-arena pop from the 1,000 scattered Floridians in attendance, and Jungle Boy came agonisingly close before the Death Triangle pairing ousted all the rest. Fenix' dive in particular was the headline-grabbing moment, but it didn't obscure what looked more like it belonged on the Buy In that this relatively prestigious stage.
