Rob Van Dam and Chris Jericho had some problems during RVD's firs year with the company, stemming from the fact that Y2J didn't take too kindly to getting busted open with Van Dam's kicks every other time they met in the ring. Van Dam, for his part, accused Jericho of being political.

They might not have been seeing eye to eye back then but you wouldn't know it based on their (underrated) match at Unforgiven 2001. Once again, this one was for RVD's Hardcore Championship, a belt that Van Dam really helped to elevate during his time carrying it.

In there with a guy like Jericho, Van Dam's spottiness was reigned in somewhat, making for a much better match. This was essentially a ladder match with a few extra trimmings. The two men really went for it, taking some big hits and busting out some big moves, such as a ladder-assisted Walls of Jericho and a suicide dive into a steel chair from Jericho to Van Dam.

That wasn't enough to get it done for Y2J, though and, following a distraction from Stephanie McMahon, RVD was able to hit a Van Daminator and a Five Star for the popular victory. JR called it a five star match afterwards and while it wasn't quite up there, it was certainly pretty damn good.

Van Dam was proving he could hang with the WWF's best.
