WWE has ended ties with UK independent wrestling groups like PROGRESS and ICW. Being brutally honest, the short-term loss of guaranteed income for producing content could be offset by long-term gain. In short, both promotions should steadily regain the mojo they arguably lost whilst housed on the WWE Network.

Take a glance at the pic above, for example. ICW packed over 6,000 people to Glasgow, Scotland's Hydro venue back in 2016. Promoter Mark Dallas and crew achieved that without any major backing. They simply had a product people were enthusiastic about, and built major achievements brick-by-bloody-brick.

Meanwhile, in London, PROGRESS saluted "punk rock pro wrestling" and fostered a similar fervour for indy wrestling. Naturally, other successful organisations like WCPW/Defiant also caught WWE's eye and forced them to entice the important British market all over again.

There's no reason why indy wrestling, in the UK and elsewhere, can't recapture some of that magic. Events at cavernous venues might be a thing of the past, but the independent scene can still be a breeding ground for excellent nights out and future superstars.

Why not?
