9. Triple H Vs. Kurt Angle (WWE)

Now here was a super hot angle (no pun intended). 2000, arguably WWE's single most entertaining year, saw the rise of Kurt Angle from goofball rookie to goofball main-eventer. On his way to the world title, the Olympic Hero went to war with Triple H over his infatuation with Stephanie McMahon.

Soapy and trashy like many of the best Attitude Era storylines, Angle went out of his way to sabotage the Helmsley-McMahon marriage, even trying to convince McMahon Triple H was cheating on her with Chyna (a slightly uncomfortable moment to watch these days). Furious, Triple H sought revenge and was granted a match with Angle at Unforgiven. They cost each other the title the month prior at Summerslam and viewers were amped to see them throw down one-on-one.

Rumours have since abounded that the Cerebral Assassin was not a fan of Angle or the storyline as a whole. That might explain the odd decision to run a poor comedy segment in which Triple H implied that Angle was gay due to his crying after winning at the 96 Olympics. An abysmal moment in an otherwise great feud, it foreshadowed the disappointment ahead.

Ultimately presented as a geek compared to the Game, Angle was soundly beaten at the pay per view and the angle with Stephanie was quickly dropped. While Angle did win rematches on TV and at the next year's Royal Rumble, the feud had run cold and the wins were not clean. Despite a great start, the feud ultimately did little for either wrestler, arguably hindering Angle's first main event push.
