10 Awesome 90s Wrestling Feuds You Totally Forgot About
8. Razor Ramon vs. Goldust (1995-1996)
While most wrestling historians know this as "the feud that caused Razor Ramon to leave WWE," it's actually one of the most intriguing-to-watch parts of WWE from the immediately pre-Attitude era. Goldust debuts as what is, to less than aware eyes, a homosexual character. He's wearing a wig and a robe, speaks with a lisp, wears lipstick and yes, while he's managed by Marlena, the Goldust presentation is so over-the-top that she's oftentimes overshadowed. When he begins making blatant come ons to the man who "oozes machismo," it's well, a recipe for actually captivating television. There's moments in the early days of Goldust where one can get the sense that Vince McMahon is sitting on the edge of his seat not really quite sure of what to do next in regards to Goldust. Dustin Runnels hit a home run against Scott Hall, who as a shoot, was clearly highly uncomfortable with the angle. Note the moment when Goldust has the arrow-pierced heart with "Razor" scrawled on his chest. It's a moment that says everything about where the business had been (there are clear homages to Gorgeous George in Goldust's presentation) and where it was headed (this angle would likely require parents benignly allowing their children to watch pro wrestling to have to sit and carefully watch the screen), too. Overall, this one is a bit better known, but the actual content of the feud is so often forgotten that it begs another watch.
