10 Awesome Heel Vs. Heel Wrestling Matches

5. 'Macho Man' Randy Savage Vs. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts (WWE Saturday Night's Main Event 1986)

Five years before they took part in a feud that was very much a story of good vs. evil, Randy Savage and Jake Roberts collided in a curious heel vs. heel battle over the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The two were rising stars in 1986 WWE, heels of a new generation who were going to take Vince McMahon's company to the next level, providing Hulk Hogan with a new type of challenger moving forward.

If you've ever had doubts about how good either man was in their prime, watch this match. This was two bad guys at their bad guy peaks, from Jake's laconic patience to Randy sticking up for Elizabeth, only to immediately hide behind her once the snake was in play.

The match itself? Electric. It was all go-go-go from the opening bell, two famously intense men at their most fervent, going back and forth for 10 minutes before the anger became too much and it broke down into an all-out fight. A couple of excellent bumps by referee Hebner later, the match was thrown out, a disappointing double-disqualification finish to a tremendous match.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
