10 Awesome Ideas WWE Suddenly Stopped Doing
7. The Royal Rumble Tumbler
The Royal Rumble is, without a doubt, one of the greatest ideas ever concocted by a wrestling promotion. It's an annual event that fans look forward to every year, but there's one minute detail in its presentation that is sorely missing nowadays, and that's the tumbler.
This object was a rotating cylinder full of 30 plastic balls with numbers ranging from 1-30 inside. The wrestlers entering the Rumble would take one at random in the build-up to the event, dictating their place in the match. It was a fun addition to the show, adding an aura of surprise and even fueling storylines before the PPV.
But, over the years, the tumbler faded away, instead making way to a non-specified order that usually reveals itself on the night. It has only made sporadic appearances in the past decade.
One of the most notable returns for the tumbler was a dire segment between Vince and Stephanie McMahon in 2016. In this, Stephanie filled each ball with the name Roman Reigns to force him to enter the Rumble at number one. Between the ham-fisted attempts to paint Reigns as an underdog and Vince's inability to open the balls, this segment truly didn't paint a good picture of the tumbler.
Still, it's a shame that it doesn't appear anymore, as it was a helpful part of building excitement for the match.
