Ring Of Honor are doing better business than ever before in 2017, but the company will never be as exciting as it was in the mid-2000s. At the height of the independent wrestling boom, Gabe Sapolsky's cult promotion invented the concept of the 'super indie,' providing a wrestling-centric island away from sports entertainment's tedious trappings, pushing future stars like Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, and CM Punk to the forefront.

Their interpromotional feud with the deathmatch-focused Combat Zone Wrestling was a real high point, and it all led to a huge cage match at Death Before Dishonor IV in July 2016. Dubbed the 'Cage Of Death,' it was contested under WarGames rules, but the structure had no roof, and there were boatloads of weapons around the ring too.

It's a lengthy bout at 40 minutes, but an extremely well booked one. ROH's Homicide ran wild in the early stages, and it didn't take long for things to get bloody, with thumbtacks, chairs, barbed wire, and forks all making an appearance. The crowd were white-hot, too. Rarely has an invading force felt as threatening as the CZW group, but while the fivesome largely succeeded in dragging their ROH counterparts into their kind of hardcore scrap, the home team won when Homicide drove Nate Webb through a barbed wire board.
