10 Awesome WWE Returns RUINED By Awful Reactions
2. Kevin Nash (SummerSlam 2011)
The main problem with this comeback is that it not only derailed one match but the hottest program in WWE at the time.
In the summer of 2011, CM Punk was the best thing going in WWE. His 'Pipebomb' promo at the beginning of the summer started him on an incredible roll that led to his victory over John Cena at SummerSlam to unify the world titles.
After the match, inexplicably, Kevin Nash appeared out of the crowd and dummied Punk from behind, knocking him out and allowing Alberto Del Rio to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and leave as World Champion. The confusion and dismay is visible on the faces of audience members, trying to figure out what the hell just happened.
The storyline would further devolve into nonsense involving text messages and firings and had no payoff with a Punk vs Nash match. Nash's storyline proved to be a dud.
Which it never should have been because, no matter how you feel about Kevin Nash, he is a bonafide legend in the wrestling world, having been part of one of the most influential stables ever. His return at SummerSlam should have resulted in as excited a reaction as when he surprise appeared at the Royal Rumble that same year.
Instead, it resulted in a collective shrug and lost opportunities for Punk.
