10 Awesome WWE Survivor Series Matches You Totally Forgot About
4. Sheamus vs. Big Show (World Heavyweight Championship Match - 2012)
Upon first glance, the idea of Sheamus vs. Big Show was not exactly what one would call appealing when the two came together for a SmackDown main event feud in the fall of 2012. Sheamus had developed into a fine worker, not to mention one of the most popular babyfaces on the roster, but trying to get a good match out of Big Show was the same as pulling teeth. He was slower, heavier and just come out of a lackluster rivalry with John Cena that delivered some truly uninspired matches. Thus, it was a tough for the company to sell the match as must-see when fans could not have cared less about the World's Largest Athlete at that point in time. Then, defiant in the face of harsh criticisms by fans, Big Show turned in one of the best performances of his entire career at October's Hell in a Cell, where he defeated Sheamus and captured the World Heavyweight Championship. So good was that match that some did not hesitate in labeling it one of the year's best. As WWE has a tendency to do when something is successful, they milked the rivalry for another match, leading to a return bout at the Survivor Series in November. Sheamus was booked as the underdog, the proud Irishman hell bent of regaining the title he had taken from him by a massive force of nature with a kill shot he referred to as the KO Punch. Who would leave Indiana with the title? It was a question WWE hoped fans would pay to find out the answer to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJHZ01PT0og Just as they had a month prior, Big Show and Sheamus relied heavily on high impact maneuvers and the reaction they typically generated to tell their story. Mixing in some dramatic nearfalls and tremendous facial expressions that helped tell of the desperation both were experiencing following each kick out of a signature maneuver, the heavyweights again had the crowd in the palm of their hands. With Sheamus surging and his title reign in jeopardy, Show used the official as a shield. From there, he blasted Sheamus with the KO Punch. A second referee hit the ring and counted the fall, seemingly awarding the match to the giant. The original referee recovered, though, and reversed the decision, disqualifying the champion and keeping Sheamus' chances of a third colossal clash with his rival alive. Frustrated, Sheamus blasted Big Show with a chair and stood tall as the crowd cheered him on.
